From Gerberoy, “town of roses”, to Beauvais, an episcopal town

Great sightseeing in and around Beauvais !

Did you know that the MUDO (Musée de l’Oise) is housed in the palace once occupied by the bishops of Beauvais?

 Morning

Guided tour of Gerberoy, a village filled with the scent of roses. Fortified in the 10th century, this is a listed historic village. It is also part of the “Plus beaux villages de France” (most beautiful villages in France) network and it really is an enchanting place with narrow cobbled streets, old half-timbered houses with walls built of cob or brick and flint, and roses in their thousands.

Lunch: we can recommend a selection of venues for food lovers.

 Afternoon

Beauvais, the episcopal town. A walk along the Gallo-Roman walls provides great views of the cathedral district and the majestic St. Peter’s Cathedral towering over the older “Basse-Œuvre”. Guided tour of the cathedral followed by a tour of the MUDO housing the collections from the Musée de l'Oise, including mediaeval sculptures, ceramics, an art collection spanning the period from the Renaissance to the 20th century and some fabulous Art nouveau furniture.

Option: A talk on the 19th-century astronomical clock. This exceptional example of clockmaking comprises 90,000 synchronised parts including some magnificent automata. It has recently celebrated its 150th birthday! (Contact us for details of the talk).
