Welcome to our home
Purchased in 1904, the former nuns' house below the collegiate church and its abandoned orchard became for Henri Le Sidaner, if not the source of inspiration for some 300 paintings, then a life-size work of art covering 4,000 m2
The artist designed every detail of the garden, including the small summer workshop in the Roseraie, where he made his sketches and finished them in the winter workshop
Labelled "Remarkable Garden", spread over three levels that descend into terraces, the white garden, the rose garden, the yellow and blue garden with a Temple of Love (a perfect replica of the one at the Petit Trianon in Versailles) are all independent gardens, linked by steep paths winding under the trees
Leaning against a section of the ruins of the old castle, above the Italian-style terraces, the rose garden is made up of a collection of 25 varieties of roses, including the Dorothy Perkins, the Excelsea rose, the white York rose and the delicately scented Gallica rose
Note that the Henri le Sidaner gardens were awarded a star in the Michelin Green Guide in 2019, renewed in 2020; the Painter's Studio is listed in the guide to the Houses of Writers and Artists.
